Barefoot Running Day

The Barefoot Runners Society (BRS) has announced its inaugural International Barefoot Running Day (IBRD) to take place on May 1, 2011, all around the world. The event is a grassroots, inclusive effort meant to promote barefoot running as a healthy and viable way to run. The organizers seek also to create a fun event where anyone can enjoy running barefoot with thousands of people worldwide on the same day.

The idea for International Barefoot Running Day was spawned in the BRS forums in December 2010. The BRS is providing the central platform for this event where many of its international chapter clubs and members will be hosting local running events and barefoot running clinics. Each event is listed at www.barefootrunners.org/ibrd with many more in the works. Anyone may participate. The BRS is extending a special invitation to those wanting to try barefoot running for the first time and equally welcomes those running in “minimalist” footwear or anyone who simply wants to show his or her solidarity.

Leading personalities in the barefoot running movement, as well as running groups and companies engaged in the sport, have lent their support by posting the IBRD logo on their websites and helping to get the word out. Tamara Gerken, President/CEO of the BRS, says about the event, “The BRS is excited to present the world with the first-ever International Barefoot Running Day. We welcome anyone who is curious about barefoot running to join us for this free, world-uniting event.” Barefoot Ken Bob, book author and a long-time proponent of barefoot running says, “International Barefoot Running Day? It's about time! Now, I have an excuse to go out and run barefoot all day long - as if I ever needed one. Come out and join me!” Jason Robillard, Founder of the Barefoot Running University, is particularly excited by the growth and interest in barefoot running. “When we developed the idea of the BRS,” he says, “something like the International Barefoot Running Day was a pipe dream. I am amazed the movement has come this far in a little over a year. The future of barefoot running is bright!”

Club Announcement

Augusta Striders
03/07/2011 05:56

The Augusta Striders would like to announce a joint effort with the Savannah Striders to list the group runs that the Savannah Striders hold on a weekly basis. Many of our members travel for work and pleasure. Many times our training runs suffer due to a lack of knowledge of the area and no known group runs in the city that you have traveled to. We hope this will provide our members who travel to the beautiful city of Savannah an outlet to run with a group of like-minded individuals while there.

Please click here to be linked to the Savannah Striders group run calendar with meeting location, address, and a point of contact for the Savannah Striders.

We will be adding more cities and information as they become available to us. Please check back often.
